A Day Living in London

Ever wondered what it would be like to live in London?

What images come to mind when you imagine London?

Maybe you imagine the cliche ideas of tea, rainy days, red double decker buses, and pubs? Well, you wouldn’t be far off- London really does fit most of its stereotypes. But what one probably can’t imagine is all the magical bits of London hidden in between. Living in London sometimes feels like walking through a story book, especially due to it being the fictional playground for famous authors such as Shakespeare, Dickens, and Doyle.

It’s grand architecture and rich history gives the city a mysterious essence. With so many remnants of history left over, London is a unique mix of the old and the new. Medieval markets, for example, such as Borough Market, still stand and are as lively as ever.

The London lifestyle can really adapt to whatever your personal preferences are. If you’re extroverted and want to socialize, London has an animated and exciting nightlife. If you’re more introverted and prefer a calmer way of life, London has an abundance of cozy cafes and quaint bookshops just waiting for you to call them home.

If you’ve stumbled upon this page, you’re probably been asking yourself what it’s like to live in London. Lucky for you, you’ve come to the right place.

Morning

You probably haven’t heard the best things about the weather in London. Unfortunately, the rumours are not wrong. It is true that London can be quite grey. You will find that the mornings will be crisp and cold most of the time. However, it’s not that bad, and most people will tell you that the best parts about living in London far outweigh the weather. All you need is a good coat and you’re set! Plus, on the bright side, fall and winter fashion in London gets a major A+.

The first thing Londoners usually do during their mornings, is grab some coffee or breakfast on their way to work. London has a lot of options when it comes to tea or coffee, with a huge selection of places to choose from. Pret A Manger is probably the most popular chain, but if you fancy an independent cafe, there are plenty of those.

Whether you choose to walk, take the bus, or the tube, is up to you! London transportation options are versatile. It also depends on how close you are to your workplace. Many people prefer to walk if they are close enough. Walking in London is really enjoyable, especially if you have to cross one of the bridges, such as Waterloo Bridge, for example. You’ll hear the morning chirping of seagulls, have a beautiful view of the Thames, and can enjoy some fresh air before you begin your day.

The bus and the tube are both great and efficient ways to get around. The bus is surprisingly quick, and sitting at the top level of a double decker is always very fun. The tube, London’s subway system, is easy to navigate and will get you all around the city in a fairly short amount of time, which is a great option if you’re running a bit late. You can expect a bus ride to cost £1.55 no matter how far you travel. The tube will cost a maximum of £4.65, depending on how far you travel.

Afternoon

The afternoon in London is full of things to do. You’ll never be bored! Lunch breaks are usually 1 - 1 ½ hours long, and during this time you can really do whatever you’re in the mood for. You could have lunch with your coworkers, or go grab some yourself. London has a vast range of cuisines available, so anything you’re craving you can likely find. Street food, as well, is a popular option, and there are markets all over the city.

If you’re feeling like you want to get some fresh air and move a bit, you can grab a hot drink and walk around a bit. London is the kind of place where you can stroll around mindlessly and poke into any random, intriguing shop you pass by. There are so many tiny, unique shops to explore walking around London. Whether it be antique book shops, tea shops, hat shops, or chocolate shops- there is a shop for everything, really. Even after living there for some time, you’ll find yourself discovering new places.

There is something about a London afternoon that feels cozy. There is never a day not perfect for huddling up in a cafe and having long talks over tea with friends.

Working in London will offer you a different lifestyle depending on what kind of field you’re in. But, one great thing about working in London, is how diverse the city is. It ranks as one of the most multicultural cities in the world, resulting in international workplaces and many expats in London.
